Why Have PPF Applied To Your Car ?

Paint Protection Film creates an almost invisible shield that safeguards your paintwork from chips, scratches, and road debris.

As you drive, other vehicles can fling stones and debris toward your car, causing paint chips. These chips are highly noticeable, and when they build up, they can leave your paintwork with a rough ‘road rash’ appearance.

Protection Against Chips

Self Healing - No Swirls & Scratches

Modern PPF is designed with a heat-activated, self-healing top layer that removes fine scratches and surface marks when warmed by sunlight or a heat gun. The transformation is surprisingly satisfying to watch.

Maintains Resale Value

With PPF safeguarding the factory paint, you maintain that fresh, like-new finish—something that greatly boosts resale value. Additionally, PPF’s UV-filtering properties help prevent sun-induced fading and discoloration over time.

What Is Paint Protection Film PPF ?

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a crystal-clear urethane film designed to shield the surface it’s applied to. In our case, that includes your car’s exterior paintwork as well as delicate interior surfaces. Yes—even those easily scratched gloss-black centre consoles can be protected with PPF, preventing the marks that appear from everyday use.

PPF offers the highest level of protection available for your vehicle. It creates a strong physical barrier between your paintwork and the stones, debris, and hazards you encounter on the road. Modern films also feature impressive self-healing technology. When exposed to heat—whether from sunlight or an external heat source—the film’s upper layers realign their particles, causing light scratches and surface marks to disappear.

This means you no longer need to worry about accidental contact, people brushing past your car, or swirl marks being introduced during washing. And thanks to the hydrophobic top layer built into the film, cleaning and drying your vehicle becomes even faster. Like ceramic coatings, the water beads and sheets off effortlessly.

HOW IS PPF INSTALLED ?

PPF is applied using a wet-installation method involving a precise mixture of “slip” and “tack” solutions. The slip solution allows us to wet the panel and position the film perfectly, giving us the freedom to align every edge and contour with precision. Once the film is exactly where it needs to be, we then introduce the tack solution, which activates the adhesive and locks the film firmly into place.

But before any film touches the car, thorough preparation is absolutely essential. We begin with a full chemical decontamination wash in our dedicated wash bay. This removes traffic film, oils, fallout, and other bonded contaminants. After this, the vehicle undergoes mechanical decontamination using a clay bar, ensuring any remaining particles are lifted from the surface.

By removing all contaminants from the paint, we create the cleanest and smoothest surface possible for the film to bond to, resulting in a cleaner, sharper, and more seamless finish.

It’s important to note that due to the nature of PPF and the surrounding environment, a small amount of dust contamination or minor imperfections can be present in any application, even under controlled conditions. This is normal within industry standards and does not affect the performance or protection the film provides.

Paint Protection Film (PPF) Frequently Asked Questions

What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?

Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a thick, transparent, or colored thermoplastic urethane film applied to a vehicle's painted surfaces. It acts as a physical barrier, offering the most robust defense against common road damage.

  • Key Protection: Shields against stone chips, rock strikes, bug splatters, bird droppings, road salt, and minor abrasions.

  • Aesthetics: High-quality PPF is virtually invisible and can come in different finishes like gloss, satin, or matte, allowing you to change your car's look while protecting the underlying paint.

How does self-healing PPF work?

The advanced polymer construction of modern, high-quality PPF includes a self-healing topcoat. When the film sustains minor scratches or swirl marks, the material's elastomeric properties allow it to reform its structure.

  • Activation: This process is often triggered by heat—from the sun, a warm garage, or warm water—which allows the light scratches to virtually disappear, keeping your vehicle's finish looking flawless.

Will PPF damage my car's original paint upon removal?

No. When professionally removed using the correct techniques and solutions, high-quality PPF will not damage your vehicle's factory paint. The adhesive is designed to release cleanly. However, be aware that removing PPF from a surface that has been repainted poorly or with non-factory paint may carry a slight risk.

Can I wash and wax my car after PPF installation?

Yes, you absolutely can! After a brief curing period (usually 48 to 72 hours), you can wash your car as normal.

  • Washing: Use pH-neutral car wash soap and soft, microfiber wash mitts/towels.

  • Avoid: Steer clear of harsh chemicals, abrasive polishes, and using a high-pressure washer close to the film's edges. You can also apply non-abrasive waxes or sealants that are labeled as PPF-safe to enhance the shine and water beading.

What areas of my car should I protect with PPF?

Protection ranges from partial to full coverage, depending on your needs and budget. The most common and recommended packages focus on high-impact zones:

  • Full Front: The most popular choice, covering the front bumper, full or partial hood, fenders, and side mirrors.

  • Track Pack: Includes all of the Full Front plus the rocker panels and rear bumper impact areas.

  • Full Vehicle: Provides maximum protection for every painted panel on the vehicle, maximizing long-term resale value.

How do I fix or repair damage to my PPF?

Minor abrasions and swirl marks will often self-heal with the application of heat (e.g., leaving the car in the sun or pouring warm water over the area).

For more significant damage, such as a deep tear or impact that compromised the film's thickness:

  • Replacement: The damaged panel's section of PPF must be professionally removed and replaced. The great news is that the damage was absorbed by the film, meaning your original factory paint underneath is usually pristine and undamaged.

  • Avoid DIY: Do not attempt to patch or repair the film yourself, as this can affect the film's clarity and bonding integrity.

Is it worth installing PPF on a leased vehicle?

Yes, installing Paint Protection Film on a leased vehicle is often a wise financial decision, even though you don't own the car long-term.

  • Avoid Fees: Leasing agreements often impose wear and tear fees for damage beyond normal use, such as excessive stone chips and paint abrasions.

  • Cost Savings: Investing in PPF for high-impact zones (like the front bumper and hood) can significantly reduce or eliminate these end-of-lease repair charges, often making the investment worthwhile upon vehicle return.
